Thanks to a generous grant from the Human Dignity Foundation, POZabilities is now ready to open registration for the 2025 Healthy Living Programs. The programs will be a bit different than the NeXT programs from the past couple of years. Our focus is still on providing the opportunity to learn and get involved in activities that can lead to a healthier lifestyle as we age. All of the research we have seen indicates that there are few things you can do that have the potential to improve both our health and quality of life.
We continue to refine and work to improve the program. In addition to the strength and mobility and nutrition elements we will add special events that encourage us to experience the outdoors and a more active lifestyle. More to come on these opportunities. If you have ideas for activities we may not have thought of yet, drop me a line at poz@pozabilities.org
All sessions are held on a drop-in basis without fee. Upon registration we will send out calendar appointments so that you can let us know if you plan on attending any specific class. This will ensure we have sufficient equipment available.
We will discontinue the assessment program. In order to achieve measurable results participants would need to dedicate more time than we have allotted and vacation and other issues prevented many from full participation.
We will not be continuing the T’ai Chi Classes. If you are interested in working with Harsha, send a note to poz@pozabilities.org and we will connect you.
We will continue to hold the Nutrition for Life classes focused on healthy lifestyle and dietary choices for aging PLWH. These classes and cooking demonstrations were very well received by those who attended and will be open to all this year.
We will not continue the individualized dietary counseling offered due to a lack of participation in that part of the program.
Registration for the strength and mobility training sessions, to start in the June Timeframe, is now open. Once we have a sense of the level of interest we will reach out with more specific details on classes.
Our trainer has proposed 2 possible times and days; Tuesdays at 12:15 and Thursdays at 10:00 AM. Just let us know which you could attend and we will workout a n appropriate schedule.
All classes are tight by a certified trainer and to the extent possible will be tailored to any physical restrictions participants might have. You will need to sign an waiver taking reesponsibility for your training and we highly recommend consulting with your medical team prior to starting any exercise program.
As we prepare for the Nutrition for Life classes for 2025, we will once again be conducting a survey to understand topics that you may consider relevant to your lives or about which you want to learn more. We have a quick survey to help us identify material that will form the basis of our classes this year. All classes will be open to all, although registration for each class helps us ensure sufficient food and materials.
We appreciate your interest in our Healthy Living programs!
