Men Meeting For Coffee
A Poem Inspired by POZ Coffee
Coffee.
Cacophony
Ca-coffee-ny.
Fifteen tables
Maybe a score.
For twenty years,
For some, it’s more
Lived through:
The sexual revolution.
The epidemic that cost lost friends,
Changing life’s ever-changing lens.
Good to see you.
A hug.
Snug.
What a drug!
Middle fingers point in jest.
Men’s humor at its best.
Friendship expressed.
Truly blessed.
Hello.
How do you do?
What’s new?
You too!?
Have you heard?
He’s undeterred
That’s absurd.
No!?
Wait…
But…
So what?
Camaraderie
Not snobbery.
Well, maybe Hans
Who’s often gone.
Thanks, Hans, for going
And for not showing.
Here comes Larry,
Always with Ben.
Larry is
His dog’s best friend.
Ryan O’Day
Tells the joke of the day.
Dad joke.
Bad joke.
Mad joke.
Sad joke.
No hope.
Bill, the old bear,
His hair still there.
Mostly there.
Hand cupped to ear
Got it, damn near.
Barry, back from the gym.
Look at him!
Working hard to get a date
Soon now?
Or is old too late.
Jake’s tale:
He asked for a date
And got it.
About what to do?
He’d forgot it.
Blain canes in,
Shoulder aches,
Wobbly knees.
Give him something stronger.
Pleaeeeeeeese!
Spilled coffee on a chum.
Fumble bum.
Napkins come.
Blotting begun.
Stain mostly undone
Wanna ride?
Need a ride?
Gotta ride.
Thanks.
Wiser now? Maybe.
Some who want to be.
Some arrested for fun
In the first degree.
United by staying alive.
Found in each other
The drive to survive
Until there’s one alive.
So many kinds.
The quiet kind.
The proud kind.
The rowdy kind.
Some quick of mind.
Some refined.
Some over-kind.
The ties that bind.
The ties that bind.
