2026 - A Look Forward
A look ahead for 2026
As we move into 2026, POZabilities renews its commitment to building an inclusive, drug-and-alcohol-free social network for people living with HIV. The coming year will focus on strengthening community connection, expanding access to supportive programming, expanding our educational focus and deepening partnerships that reduce isolation and stigma.
Key priorities for 2026
Expand in-person events: We will increase the number and variety of events—social meetups, support circles, educational workshops, and wellness activities—offered in more neighborhoods. We will continue to focus on in-person events that bring people physically together as a community.
Cultivate peer led activities: We will grow our peer-led volunteer program, ensuring that every program and event that we offer is conceived and led by a member of the community. POZabilities will support the growth of these peer led activities through funding, marketing and other assistance as needed.
Prioritize mental health and wellness: Recognizing the ongoing mental-health needs of our community, we will introduce more trauma-informed and resilience-building offerings, including partnering to offer mindfulness sessions, facilitated discussions, and referrals to mental-health resources.
Strengthen anti-stigma education: We will run targeted community education efforts to reduce HIV-related prejudice and discrimination, including public-facing campaigns and workshops for local organizations and employers.
Improve access and inclusivity: We will audit our programming and communications to remove barriers related to mobility, language, age, gender identity, religious or cultural differences and socioeconomic status. Efforts include offering more accessible venues, varied meeting times, and materials in plain language.
Foster strategic partnerships: We will deepen collaborations with healthcare providers, community-based organizations, and local governments to coordinate services, increase referral pathways, and advocate for policies that support people living with HIV.
Build digital community capacity: Investments will continue to enhance and grow a more reliable, user-friendly digital platform for event registration, peer groups, and resource sharing, while maintaining privacy and choice for members who prefer anonymity.
Volunteer and leadership development: We will expand leadership training and mentorship for members who wish to take on organizer roles, ensuring member-led programs remain central to POZabilities’ mission.
Achieve Financial Stability
With the ending of the San Diego AIDS Walk and Run, POZabilities had to look for new sources of income to support our programs. In 2025 we were able to successfully fund each of the programs we had planned through generous grants and fundraisers led by members of the community. Through a combination of grants, fundraisers and donations we will continue to provide and fund programs developed and implemented by and for San Diego’s HIV community. We intend to continue and build on this success for 2026. We will commit to:
Only apply for grant funding for programs we have planned and intend to deliver. We use a plan, fund, deliver cycle. We will not apply for grants for which we do not have a planned program ready to deliver, as this can divert funds from other needy organizations and programs.
We will develop and promote a planned giving program.
We will continue to publish at every board meeting and be transparent regarding our finances and be prudent in our limited overhead expenditures. It is important that the vast majority of funding received go to delivering programs for the community. We have no paid staff nor do we rent offices or other facilities other than for storage of event materials.
We will be compliant with att local, state and federal requirements to preserve our status as a nonprofit corporation.
How community members can get involved
Join or propose events: Attend in-person gatherings, or suggest activities you’d like to lead.
Share feedback: Participate in member surveys and listening sessions to shape programming and priorities.
Advocate locally: Help connect POZabilities with local clinics, employers, and community centers to broaden reach and reduce stigma.
Measuring success
We will track impact through attendance and partnering metrics, member satisfaction surveys, peer activities growth, and measures of social connectedness and wellbeing among members. Regular reports will summarize progress and identify areas for improvement. We will actively communicate how we deliver and fund all activities.
Closing note
In 2026, POZabilities will continue to center the lived experience of people with HIV, building supportive, stigma-free spaces where members can connect, grow, and thrive. Your participation and feedback will remain essential as we expand services and strengthen the community.
